An award? For me?

This is from Debbie, a fellow "7 Quick Takes"-er and knitter. I'm honored, really, as I don't feel particularly creative most days, but I will graciously accept it.

Here are the official rules:
  1. Copy the award to your site
  2. Link to the person from whom you received the award
  3. Nominate 7 other bloggers
  4. Link to those on your blog
  5. Leave a message on the blogs you nominated

And two addenda from me:

  1. If you just want to accept and not tag anyone, I have no problem with that.
  2. I'm only nominating the crafting blogs I actually comment to and who have commented to me. No "big names" here, just friends. :)

Here are my nominations:
  1. Jo from freestylefibre (blog) and limegreenjelly (etsy shop, check it out!). Jo and I "met" through a knitting swap and she is an artist in many media, but particularly dyeing and spinning.
  2. Amanda at OldFashionedGirl. I love her escapades into sewing and baking, and am slightly envious of both.
  3. My friend Jazmyn. She also has an etsy shop, and is a mad crocheter and jewelry maker!
  4. Katherine at FuzzyLove, a fellow Raveler and mom. I enjoy her posts a great deal.

Mosaic

I've been wanting to do this project since I saw Jo's in July. I tried a few weeks ago, but one of the photographers had restrictions on his/her photos and so the mosaic had one empty box in it, and I had to start all over again but couldn't find the time. Well, now that Jamie's napping more reliably, I thought I'd give it another go.

Here’s how you do it:
1. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
2. Using only the first page, pick an image.
3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s mosaic maker.

These are the questions, and my answers (and commentary):
1. What is your first name? Kim
2. What is your favorite food? Sushi (this was a hard one -- how do you pick one favorite food?)
3. What high school did you go to? Theodore Roosevelt
4. What is your favorite color? Blue
5. Who is your celebrity crush? Connor Trinneer
6. Favorite drink? Coffee
7. Dream vacation? Ireland (Also hard. There are so many places I want to go.)
8. Favorite dessert? Hazelnut mousse (from Richter's Chalet in Dearborn, yum!)
9. What you want to be when you grow up? Content
10. What do you love most in life? Cats (again, seriously? It could have easily been music, yarn, books...)
11. One Word to describe you. Competent
12. Your flickr name. Nualacat (I had to cheat and enter Nuala cat as two words because I got no results for my user name as it is.)

A little meme

This meme is courtesy of my friend Jo. I'm quite grateful since I needed some blog fodder. (My life is very good lately, but very boring!)

1. What I was doing 10 years ago:
I was 25, living in a little house with two kittens, working at Bon Secours Nursing Care Center as a Music Therapist and commuting 50 minutes each way -- boy am I glad I don't have to do that any more. And dating Andrew Kilburn and waiting (somewhat) patiently for him to ask me to marry him!

2. What 5 things are on on my to-do list for today (not in any particular order):
Pay bills
Take Rose to the park if it doesn't rain
Go to an OB appointment
Buy a #3 16" circular needle
Attend a surprise retirement dinner

3. Snacks I enjoy:
Peanut butter with apple, Tagalog (Girl Scout) cookies, Combos, candy corn, peanut butter M&Ms

4. Things I would do if I was a billionaire:
Set up accounts for us and our families to live as comfortably as possible for the rest of our lives; support our parish; buy a building for the local community theatre; go to Disney World every winter; go to Nova Scotia; go everywhere we've always wanted to go.

5. Places I have lived:
Wyandotte
Kalamazoo
Delaware
Caro
Wyandotte

Weirdness

Alright, alright, alright.

Jo tagged me for the "Six Weird Things" meme, and I think I've finally found six. I mean, I know I've got my weird points (be quiet, Rachel), but listing and describing six? It was tough.

1. I count. I mean, when I'm walking down the stairs in the morning, I count each step. I know how many steps there are, but it doesn't matter. I count them. I count the number of times I move my toothbrush as I brush my teeth. I count the number of stirs as I mix batter. Anything I do that happens at a steady pace, I count.

2. I have watched and loved Star Trek since I was a teenager. The original series, of course, but also each incarnation as it was introduced. My geekiness is in full swing at this time, as all five series are now on television at once, each on one channel or another. I can't remember that ever happening before, and I'm loving it.

3. I have to lie on my back when I first get into bed, to get sleepy. But as I get sleepier, I have to roll to my side to actually fall asleep. I have no idea why.

4. Speaking of sleeping, if I ever have trouble sleeping, watching "Are You Being Served" always helps. It's not that it's a boring program, as a matter of fact, it's one of my favorites. It's just that Detroit Public Television has always played it at 11pm on weeknights, so I think my brain just associates it with getting sleepy. I could pop in a DVD of it at 8:00 and be ready to crawl into bed at 8:30.

5. I know the words to more songs written before 1950 than I do current songs, or even songs that were popular when I was younger. Working in a nursing home for three years contributes to this, but even in high school I could sing "The Sheik of Araby" from beginning to end, not to mention "We'll Meet Again" or "Oh How I Hate To Get Up In The Morning."

6. I love words. I love learning where words come from. I loved finding out that "diva" comes from the Latin for "goddess." Brilliant! And "disaster" -- "dis" (apart) "aster" (stars) -- "separated from the stars, or heavens." How cool is that?

I'm going to break a rule of this meme and only pass it on to my friend Rachel. I'll help you think of weird things if you need me to! Brazil.

Love,

Kim

I've Been Tagged...

...by Jo at freestylefibre!

My assignment is to grab the nearest book, list title and author, then turn to page 123, go to the fifth sentence on the page, then list the next three sentences.,

Song of Susannah, by Stephen King

"Yes!" Mia cried, delirious with joy, and Susannah caught a sudden brilliant glimpse of something. It was like peeking beneath the hem of a circus tent at some bright wonder. Or a dark one.

Now I'm supposed to tag three friends. I pick my blogmate, Rachel, my friend Monica, and my sister Shannon. Let's see what you're reading right now!
